The Blackberry Tablet “Playbook”
Lately we reported about RIM Blackberry to release a tablet this month end. Now here it is, the Playbook, launched fresh. Not similar to the coined name people had as BlackPad, the Blackberry Playbook is surely hell of a internet tablet.
The Blackberry Playbook comes with an amazing configuration, the best for a tablet I’ve seen.
- 1 GHz Dual Core Processor
- 1 GB RAM
- 7 inch LCD Capacitive multi-touch display
- Dual HD cameras – 5 Mega Pixels at back and 3 Mega Pixels in front for video conferencing
- Full support for Flash and HTML 5
- Video playback : 1080p HD video – H.264, MPEG4, WMV , DivX formats
- Runs on QNX platform
- Multi-tasking
It supports syncing with any Blackberry device for push email, BBM, calendar, documents etc. The current model supports Wi-Fi only and future 3G and 4G models are lined up.
The release is expected to be in early 2011 over all US. Global releases later the first quarter 2011. On the price point, the Blackberry Playbook is expected to be non so high like the other market competitors like recently announced Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The Blackberry Paybook configuration is currently the best in market. I will call it the perfect blend to compete in between the Apple iPad and Android tablets. A sure wish list gadget is here. I call it a #WIN and I’m officially a Blackberry Playbook fan now!

Analytics service offers developers deep insight into how customers are using their BlackBerry smartphone applications San Francisco - BlackBerry DEVCON 2010 - Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) and Webtrends today announced they are working together to deliver free enterprise-class analytics to the BlackBerry® developer community. The BlackBerry® Analytics Service, powered by Webtrends, will allow developers to quickly and easily add measurement into their applications.* BlackBerry developers will be able to use the mobile analytics service to discover insights about how customers use their apps and to evolve their applications in ways that will drive loyalty, increase use, and potentially lead to new and more successful avenues for revenue and monetization. "Feedback from our customers and development partners has always shaped our BlackBerry products and services, and so we understand the need for deep, rich and accurate analytics. We also know that access to such metrics is a top priority for BlackBerry developers as they try to make their applications stand out in an increasingly crowded market," said Curtis Sasaki, Vice President, Product Management at Research In Motion. "With just a few lines of code, developers can add Webtrends analytics and gain access to a very broad range of insightful measurements." The BlackBerry Analytics Service is powered by the Webtrends Mobile Analytics platform. Using the Webtrends SDK, BlackBerry developers can integrate metrics tracking into their applications to capture events deemed relevant. Developers can track application use, frequency of use, loyalty of users, screens accessed and features used. The Mobile Analytics platform provides real insight into how their applications are being used, helps developers better understand adoption and allows them to measure success against their usage goals. "BlackBerry developers will now have better access to complementary, enterprise-class mobile analytics technology and services," said Alex Yoder, CEO, Webtrends. "Webtrends has a truly powerful and incredibly comprehensive platform for creating, measuring and improving content across all digital channels and mobile is no exception. One little caveat for the download though, see below: BlackBerry Theme Studio v6.0 beta only supports the BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone and BlackBerry® 6 OS. This version is recommended for experienced users who want to experiment with the latest BlackBerry technology and don’t need a full set of documentation (the software comes with a description of the new features only). 24 Carat Gold plated Bold 9700

The folks over at CrackBerry got these pictures sent into them by Kenneth Tong, who is on UK Channel 4 Big Brother, as well as the upcoming Millionaire Matchmaker. This is Kenneth Tong’s BlackBerry Bold 9700 that is plated in 24 carat gold. This does look beautiful but is this really needed? Do you really need your BlackBerry device cover in Gold. I really do love the look of my BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 and I sometimes hate putting cases on it because I can’t see the true look of my device. I think it is a bit overboard to Plate my BlackBerry with Gold, silver, pearls, or whatever else people have plated there BlackBerry device. I guess why not if you have the money right?

Updated Facebook v1.8.0.49 Available to Public in App World (Location Specific?), v1.8.0.31 Leaked with Activation Key Work-Around for the Rest of us
[UPDATE: It looks like v1.8.0.49 has been made available to some people in App World, though it isn't showing up for me here in Canada. Let us know if it shows up for you, and which carrier/what country you're in!]
Earlier today Facebook was released to members of the Beta Zone, though it seems as though it was pulled shortly afterwards. Before the day’s end, however, it has been leaked and is unofficially available, with an activation key workaround.
Updates I’ve found to be included so far are:
- Slightly increased speed
- A few new options, including update intervals
- Comments load entire thread properly (Not sure if anybody else was having this issue)
- New “Add as Friend” in comments sections
To install the leaked Facebook 1.8.0.31 beta, make sure you have the latest official version of the Facebook application. If you don’t head to blackberry.com/facebook to get it.
Download the leaked Facebook app from the link below from your handset
Once the download finishes and you are asked to reboot your device, DON’T. Instead, press the red End Call key and exit to your homescreen. Launch your existing Facebook application, and accept the terms and conditions
Within Facebook, go Options and select Logout. Close the app, re-launch it, and login in again. Once the application fully loads, reboot your Blackberry. Once it has started up, your Facebook application should be updated to v1.8.0.31 without the need for an activation key!
BlackBerry vs iPhone in Enterprise: The BlackBerry++ Scenario
I have been speaking with Brian Reed at BoxTone for some time now about iPhone vs BlackBerry and the line I get most often is that it’s a “BlackBerry++” scenario. This denotes that the majority of organizations are using BlackBerry, with a smattering of other devices on the network such as the iPhone and the Pre.
There are a variety of reasons why the BlackBerry has become the business standard. Security and reliability are some of the central reasons, but Brian sums it up as having met three criteria: “Meet the needs of the enterprise IT organization; meet the needs of the enterprise user; be easy to do business with.”
From an IT perspective, BlackBerry provides some essential features that the iPhone currently lacks such as native VPN, native Mobile Device Management (MDM, private on-premise secure OTA app push and a limited number of IT policies. Other features such as a tactile keyboard demanded by speed typers, the all day power, the multi-threaded operating system capable of simultaneous apps, and the reliable service delivery that most mobile business users demand, make the BlackBerry a winner in enterprise for the foreseeable future.
So why is everyone talking about iPhone in enterprise? As mentioned above, the BlackBerry++ scenario is in some ways confusing mainstream media that the iPhone has a significant presence in enterprise. It’s true that these devices exist in enterprise, but these devices are often employee liable versus corporate liable.
A typical case involves a CEO who decides he wants to try out the latest Droid phone and brings it to his IT department and says “get this working for me.” The Android software is new and unpolished, and it may not even support IT policies, but the CEO has to have it nonetheless. Others in the company see the CEO using this device and some want to try it out too. IT admins will either fight against these devices, let employees have them under employee liable conditions, or just give up and let the gadget lovers in the company bring whatever they want on to the network. This is where the iPhone sits in business, as a gadget that a few in the organization want, and IT isn’t elated about. I would be surprised if there is even 1 major organization that has rolled out iPhones across a network in the thousands of devices. BlackBerry has several of these clients.
While I appreciate the Apple design philosophy and the company’s ability to create a revolutionary platform, to date it lacks many of the features required by business. Personally, I would like to see Apple try a slider device, as having a keyboard would go a long way to making the device more functional. But in the end, this may all be a moot discussion. Quarter after quarter, we’re seeing non-enterprise subscriptions go up, and while enterprise subscriptions aren’t necessarily down, they’re being overshadowed by consumer smartphone purchases. Winning the enterprise market may not be enough anymore to be a competitive smartphone manufacturer.

Blackberry Problems
After reviewing the forums for the past few days, I noticed a lot of users were having issues with their BlackBerry Messenger which was also noticed by DangermouseUK. The issues seen in this case is that avatars and remote back up of BlackBerry Messenger contacts is not correctly working. This current situation appears to be affecting not only BIS users but BES users as well.

Blackberry Problem Fix - Where Did All My Text Messages Go ?
Once you have played around with your new BlackBerry smartphone you will no doubt eventually wish to open the message folder and then you may realise they have all suddenly vanished.
If you do don panic as this is a normal feature with BlackBerry smartphones to clear up memory, and there are a few things the user can do to resolve the problem reports the examiner.
One option is to pull the battery but this is only a temporary resolve. The best option is to channel all your voice recordings, pictures and videos and stuff to a memory card, because the reason for the delete is the handset is running low on memory, so using a memory card halts this from happening.
